is it harder to talk shit about obama now?

around the winter all of us left-wing, half-ass liberals were pissing all over obama

he escalated the war in afghanistan, that seemed fucked

he was taking forever to get healthcare through congress and it seemed like there might not even be a healthcare bill at all after that asshole republican got elected to the senate by those elitist snobs up in massachusetts (no offense to any "chill" citizens of massachusetts, i think you know what i mean anyways)

no one knows what the deal is with iraq, although maybe that isnt such a big deal anymore

but now he has finally passed a healthcare bill that is actually okay, maybe even pretty good

young adults will be able to stay on their parents plans longer than they were previously allowed to by law, so that will dramatically decrease the uninsured numbers

also, it supposedly is going to help poorer people a lot more than the former/current american healthcare system

i have talked to several people who have found it almost impossible to get onto medicaid or medicare despite the fact that they are eligible

there was/is just too much bureaucracy

that stuff was remnants of the 60s and lbj, when a lot of people thought they could make america into a european-style nation in terms of universal/socialized healthcare

but it never really worked, because america has a lot of stubborn conservatives who like things the way they are

bill and hillary tried to bring universal healthcare in the 90s, but it wasnt happening, and it ended up ruining clinton's presidency to an extent

but obama seems to know what he is doing, maybe

he has better political strategists i think, and he is also in a better political climate for democrats/liberals, and he also might be a more ballsy president and maybe even better person than clinton or lbj

he might get some shit for this bill, but its not as radical as a lot of liberals had hoped it would be (i.e. the "public option") and it doesnt spend quite as much money as the earlier proposals, so conservatives dont have nearly as much to bitch about

all this being said, i am not overly optimistic about obama

he is still a politician, and he is still a member of one of the two big corporate american parties

i wouldnt be surprised if the bill doesnt do shit, but i also wouldnt be surprised if it helps some too

now obama is going to do shit about energy and the environment

hes now in favor of nuclear power i think, that might be fucked up

he also wants to continue spending money (if you didnt know, there is something called "keynesian economics" which says, in a nut shell, that it is good for the government to spend money during periods of economic recessions and whatnot)

other than that, i dont really care

if i had my way, we would have an anarcho-syndicalist form of government

or the green party, socialist party, libertarian party, and constitutional party should be the main parties

but that is not going to happen

oh well

it will never be difficult to talk shit about a u.s. president

you are right, the bill has some good things, but it sustains all of the core ills of the system

and now it seems many will be mandated to buy into this dysfunctional system

it is a small step at best.

yeah for the people who really need healthcare it most likely wont bring much progress, but who knows

but as for me, i am pumped, because i will get to stay on my moms health insurance once i graduate this spring and for several years until i can figure out how to get my own
