classics, or not classics

to read the classics, or not to read the classics

its not so much a question as it is a weird dialectic (or not so weird maybe)

if i spend too much time reading books that are definitively considered classics, then i become disenchanted with literature

so i read contemporary books or blogs or something else that is apparently not a classic, and then i feel better about literature

there is also a dynamic of reading or not reading

i may read several books a week for a month or two, and then not read any books for the next several months

i feel this is the same for blogging, and maybe writing in general to some extent, but mainly blogging

i generally write pretty consistently

i would like to create a balance in these other respects though (reading and blogging)

but i like the classic-not classic dialectic

maybe the classics can tell me something to help with the balance in the other things

but it is just as likely that something contemporary or junkie can do this

dont like lumping together contemporary or junkie and i dont like using those terms owell

You mean you're not rushing home to read Museal every night after Mirsky? I tried to get through Proust this summer, but to no avail, and it's not that I feel like less of a person, but just that there are better people than me out there who HAVE gotten through his "Swann's Way."
